Here are some sites to help explain the long division process
We use the letter DMSCB...Does McDonalds Sell Cheese Burgers... These letters stand for Division, multiplication, subtraction, check, bring down. If the children get into the habit of following these steps they should understand it and be able to answer any question. We haved studied multiplication, with an emphasis on multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000.
We have looked at 2D shapes. We learned their names and features. We explored tangrams and tesselation also. We are currently looking at division. The children are being introduced to long division. This is a difficult and lengthy process but I've no doubt they will all become familiar with it in time. We have begun a new chapter on Data in maths this week.
This involves finding the average of a certain amount of numbers, interpreting charts, graphs and information given. We will be compiling our own data and displaying the information on graphs and charts also. |
