We learned about the lungs and their function before Easter. Our experiment tested our lung strength/capacity.
We have briefly looked at light and its qualities. We will continue our light study after the midterm and then move onto electricity and forces.
Ever heard of hydraulics or pneumatics? This experiment was to see if water had surface tension. We places objects gently on top, some with hands others with rules or other tools. Many groups managed to get objects to sit on top of the water without breaking the surface tension. As you can see the water looks like it is bending around the objects.
We also did this experiment with milk and food colouring-this was a very interesting one as it shows how washing up liquid breaks the top layer of fat molecules on the surface of milk. We completed some experiments involving water on our first week back. One table made 'Gravity free water' Another table experimented with 'travelling water' to show the capillary effect of water. Water can travel through certain mediums to an area lacking in water. This group ended up with an even amount of water in each flask after a day. The final table completed an experiment to see if oil and water (dyed green) would mix. This group showed oil didn't dissolve in water, eventually after all the bubbles died down the oil sat on top of the water.
