During the month of March we explored the Famine and the children created amazing Famine structures. We then looked at the tragedy of Pompeii and the lifestyles of the Ancient Romans |

We are studying the period of the Great Irish Famine. We are reading the novel 'Under The Hawthorn Tree' and exploring life in that time. We are also looking at the impact of the famine on emigration and the decrease in population around Ireland. We will be studying the more localised Famine in Wicklow and how the people dealt with it.

For the second and third week of November we will be learning about World War One and looking to into the countries involved and the way life was in that period of time.
Since the midterm we have looked into the history of Halloween and where the traditions originated.

This week (Oct 20th) we have looked at the history of medicine and how originally people couldn't afford doctors so they went to healers and 'witch doctors' who would use potions and lotions to cure them.
It was also believed if you were very sick that God was punishing you so priests were often involved in the healing process.

For the first few weeks we looked at Anne Frank and her famous diary. As a class we explored the topic of World War 2 and the devastation it caused throughout the world.
