Lots of events occurred throughout the months of May and June 2015. Among these were the Sports Day, activities and the Tony Lawlor cup that were so well run by Mr. Stakelum. Everyone had a lovely day on the Sports Day and Sponsored Walk. We also had our School Tour to Zip It on the 16th June. Everything went really well, the children were very good and everyone enjoyed the experience. |

We have a short week this week due to long weekend coming up. The school will be closed Friday 1st May and Monday 4th May.
This week we have been learning about capacity, the 1960s, the eye, letters of complaint and caitheamh aimsire. We made the most of the lovely weather and the great facilities we have on our doorstep in Kilmacanogue this week. We took a trip to the playground and had a picnic down there. We also have been practising writing letters so we posted them during the week and while down there decided to visit the old Kilmacanogue cemetry.
We watched our class appear on RTE Swipe Tv on Monday after the Easter break.
We've had lovely weather this week so we took our art class outside and sketched the beautiful local surroundings of our school We had a very busy second term with singing for the Confirmation and Easter preparation.
We organised an Easter Egg hunt for Junior Infants and it went very well This week has been very busy. Third to Sixth classes attended a Peace Proms concert on Saturday night. The evening was lovely and the children were very well behaved. I hope anyone who bought tickets enjoyed the night. On Sunday it was St. Brigid's day so we made St. Brigid's crosses during the week and learned the song 'We sing a song to Brigid' On Wednesday Eimhin, Alex and Ms. Campbell went to RTE studios to take part in a school quiz. They competed against a school from Kildare and won by one point. The children got to gunge Ms. Campbell!
It will be aired early March! This week is very exciting as our class have been told we are going to be involved in the Schools Quiz on RTE. There will be some filming done in the classroom on Thursday for a few hours involving the whole class. There will be permission slips sent out as soon as possible to inform all parents of this and to sign off on it. If any parents would not like their child to be involved the child will just do some work in another class for the duration of filming. The children have been doing projects on a topic of their own choice and they are due in on Wednesday of this week and a presentation is expected also. I would encourage parents this week to sign homework notebooks at least once a week and check everything is getting put back into the children's bags as some of the homework is not being done or being left at home. The learning homework is just as important as the written homework, especially the Gaeilge spellings. Here is a clip of our recent Irish Haka 'An Haka Gaelach' SAM 0835 from Miss Campbell on Vimeo. Click to set custom HTML I'd like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and to welcome everyone back to school. This week we are getting back into routine and normality. We will be continuing practice for the Peace Proms that is coming up on the 31st January (Saturday night). For those children who are not attending I expect work to be done while we as a class are practising the songs and actions. Spellings have been given on the homework sheet, along with maths problems relating to Money that we are continuing on this week. We are completing our studies of New Zealand and the Maoris. The children have decided to select projects on topics of their own choice and I have allowed them to help with their research, editing and presenting skills. We will be beginning a novel soon based around The Famine. The school website is now up and running also and you can access it through the link below or on our class website's homepage The children may inform you we are in the process of applying for a schools quiz that will be on RTE junior. 5th and 6th class have decided to apply, there is not guarantee we will get on but we will keep all parents involved if we do. It would involve the class going up against another class from another school in a quiz, it involves the teachers and the possibility of winning prizes. There would be a day filming within the class and then in RTE studios also.
This week will be a very busy week.
We have the Peace Proms practice on Tuesday 16th December- the coach will be leaving early morning Tuesday, a note went out last week about it. 3euro is needed to cover the coach cost. We will be back by around 12pm. There will be a GOAL mile on that afternoon within the school and a note went out about that last week also, ideally each child would donate a small sum to go to the GOAL charity. On Wednesday we have our class show, it'll begin at 12pm and will probably last around 30 minutes. A note went out about the show last week and I asked who would be attending the show on the Wednesday so as we can prepare the room. On Thursday the children will present their Australian projects to the class. The school will close early on Friday for the Christmas holidays. I'd like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas!
